Curriculum Night

I had never heard of such a thing as Curriculum Night, so I had no idea what to expect. Well, to be honest, I inferred that it would involve walking in the kiddo's shoes and meeting his teachers, but I wasn't really prepared for the experience.  It isn't easy being a middle school kid these days, it seems; perhaps this was in part to get that point across.

I learned a lot of useful things, not the least of which was that the kid had been fibbing about his homework, or lack thereof in his worldview.  Knowing the actual facts, knowing the homework calendar is available to us 24/7, knowing we can also see his daily work habits and other grades... it changes things.  It also led to a rather large behaviour moment when I got home armed with this new information.

Long story short, there will be some changes around the homestead until the habit of work before play is inculcated.  We did have some nice giggle/horseplay to break the heavy emotion about 30 minutes after, though; he is upstairs doing his reading before bed as I type this.

The journey continues...
